How we raise funds

The unromantic mechanics of a raise: preparation, a short list, and a data room that answers questions before they are asked.

Preparation is most of it

A raise is won before the first meeting. Numbers reconciled, cap table clean, contracts in one place, a story that survives a sceptical reader. We spend the first weeks making the company legible, because every unanswered question becomes a discount.

Short lists beat broad lists

Blasting a deck to two hundred addresses damages a name. We work a short list of investors who have written similar cheques recently, and we approach them with something specific to say about why this one fits their book.

Fees, not interest

We are paid a fee for the work and the outcome. We do not charge interest, and we do not take a hidden spread on the money we help move. When we are on both sides of an arrangement, we charge ourselves the same fee we would charge anyone else.
